This is part two of a multi-part series on building a catio. Read Part One.

The catio is starting to take shape! The result of our first day’s effort was six lonely posts, which planted the roots of this outdoor haven. Now, we’ve placed the walls and made ready to raise the rafters so before too long it will be a playground of possibilities.

This week’s theme was steel and strategy. We wrestled with the unruly beast of chain link. Teamwork and muscle were crucial as we stretched and secured the chain link with tension bands and tension bars to ensure a purrfectly impenetrable barrier.

But this feline sanctuary isn’t just about walls. We positioned (most of) the roof supports, laying the groundwork for a shady canopy of protection from Houston’s sweltering summer sun and sturdy cover from storms.

As we wrapped up our second day of labor on the catio project, we mapped out the next steps, already buzzing with the anticipation of transforming this unfinished bit of wood and wire into a catio masterpiece.
