This simple $3 toy has captivated my cat. The Cat Dancer is easily one of his favorites.

Looking at it, it doesn’t seem like it could provide as many hours of chasing and pouncing entertainment as it has, but this wire and cardboard toy completely fascinates cats while satisfying their need for prey-play The interactive toy comes in two versions.

The $3 Cat Dancer Original is meant for human-and-cat play while the other, known as the Cat Dancer Deluxe, is a wall-mounted version that allows your cat to play on their own. That costs less than $10. Because I’m a strict believer in toy rotation, I don’t leave the Cat Dancer Deluxe out and available all the time, but when it’s out, Espresso plays with it a couple of times a day.

You can use the original Cat Dancer in the normal prey-play fashion, enticing the cat to chase it, to hunt and to pounce. You can add extra excitement to a play session by incorporating boxes and bags in the play zone.

If I were to change one thing about the toy, it would be to somehow ruggedize the handle and make it more ergonomic to hold. But $3 for a toy my cat loves? I’m okay with replacing it when the handle wears out. Happy prey play and stay pawsome!
